Born Pretty Store Review and an Awesome Halloween Tape Mani

Today I have something seriously AWESOME!!!

I have been seeing tons of manicures in the nail blog world using striping tape, and I have been really interested in getting some to experiment with. I do not do nail art, so I thought striping tape would be a fun easy way to add some excitement to my manicures.

I wasn't all too familiar with how to purchase tape, and really wasn't sure where to get it.  Many suggested purchasing on Ebay, but lots of us do not use Ebay. So, when the Born Pretty Store approached me and asked if I would like to review some of their products, I jumped at the opportunity. They allowed me to pick a product I liked, and of course I picked the striping tape!

This is what I received in my package...

First I would like to say that this package was delivered to me SUPER FAST from over-seas. I got this package quicker than I get things in the U.S. I'm still not sure how they got it to me this fast. I am very pleased with the excellent shipping. The packaging was excellent as well, everything was  nicely packed.

The package retails for $8.99 (wow, awesome price) and you receive all 12 colors.  WOW again is all I can say. The best part...FREE SHIPPING on every order. That is something I am all on board with. Sometimes shipping can kill us with ordering online. These rolls are packed with tape in every color I can think of. I was beyond impressed with this set. Here is a link to the item if you are interested in checking it out HERE. The store is loaded with awesome other nail art items for great prices as well.

You also get 10% off your order with the following Code: EPL91. I have added this to my sidebar as well for all future orders you may want to place.

Look at all the colors I received...

the 12 colors included are...Gold, Pink, White, Deep Green, Red, Deep Blue, Neon Rose, Silver, Brown, Light Blue, Green, Purple.

I was really excited and decided I was going to dive right in and do a striping manicure!!! I thought about it and had no ideas, but last week while I was lurking around the MakeupAlley Nail Board I ran into a post by nrohloff that was AMAZING, she is brilliant for this idea. I knew immediately I had to recreate it. The MUA post is HERE for you to see.

This is the Inspiration Picture...
As a kid I was obsessed with The Wizard of Oz, so I really fell in love with this idea. Thanks so much nrohloff for this wonderful idea, here is my interpretation of this ...

I love how this turned out. I could have been cleaner on how I trimmed the tape (my thumb), but I didn't have a good pair of tiny sharp scissors. I have already made arrangements to get them so my next striping tape mani will be a lot cleaner. I'm more than thrilled with this as my first time attempt.

I did not use a top coat on this, I wasn't sure I could and didn't want to ruin it. I did apply a top coat after these pictures, and it was fine. It smoothed it out really nicely.

I used Illamasqua Black polish on all my fingers, except on my ring finger which is China Glaze Ruby Pumps (which was perfect for the ruby pumps I was copying lol).

The strips where created using Born Pretty white striping tape. I decided to leave the tape on the nail. It was so glossy and pretty and I wanted to use the tape, instead of masking with it for my first attempt.

I'm sorry I didn't try this striping tape sooner, yes it was a tiny bit time consuming and took some detail work with the scissors, but the results are fabulous! The possibilities with this tape are ENDLESS!

I'm usually really critical of myself, and I'm thrilled with this. Do you guys like this? Are you wanting to see more striping mani's out of me? I would love to hear what you guys have to think.

*the products in this post were sent for my honest review*

  1. Love this - it looks fabulous! I think I'd end up with more of the tape all over my fingers, and less on my nails though, LoL.

  2. Wow, you did awesome! I find cutting the edges on striping tape a bit of a pain, too.

  4. I would just like to go on record as saying I have very shaky hands & that mani was my first/last attempt at doing "straight" lines freehand. :P The Polish Hoochie, on the other hand, did a beautiful job. And, as I told her earlier, it's great to see the manicure I envisioned in my head executed so brilliantly. My ruby pump's off to you! ~nrohloff

  6. Ah I have been curious about striping tapes. Still not quite ready to buy seeing the whole cutting the edge thing, well I know mine would look worse. LOL! This manicure is awesome though. Great interpretation of the inspiration photo.
